'We've no medals yet' - Séamus Callanan refuses to get carried away with semi-final win

Two goals from the Tipperary forward proved crucial today.

HE MAY HAVE scored two crucial goals for Tipperary but Séamus Callanan is refusing to get carried away with his side’s 10-point win over Cork in their All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship semi-final this afternoon.

The Drom-Inch forward raised the green flag once in either half as the Premier County put a below par Rebels side to the sword in Croke Park to set up a fourth All-Ireland final meeting with Kilkenny in six years.

However, the 25-year old insisted he and his team-mates still have plenty to do against the Cats if they’re to win a 27th All-Ireland senior title.

“It’s a great win, I don’t mind who scores, it’s just good to be back to an All-Ireland final,” he told RTÉ’s The Sunday Game after the final whistle.

“We’ve no medal yet though so we’ll hope for the best.”

While Callanan admitted he was happy with his individual performance, he insisted it would not have been possible without the contributions of his team-mates both today and over the past few months.

“You look around the field and the forwards are nothing without the work-rate of everyone else out the field.

“We might get the plaudits at the end but it was a massive effort put in from everyone inside in that dressing room from 1 to 31 and everyone involved in the back room.

“We didn’t have the luck at the start of the year, things just weren’t going our way but it’s not luck, it’s due to hard work really but, look, we’ve nothing won yet so we’ll take it step-by-step.

“We’re [in an All-Ireland final] now but it means nothing unless we go on and win it.”
